OUR STORY
Garden Men was established in 2021 originally offering green waste removal and garden tidy up services. Brothers Leo and Calvin Norcross left their respective jobs after covid and wanted to create their own business.
Leo had been working as a graphic designer and dealing with clients. Calvin was working in a Panel shop learning the trade.
Their idea was to offer a Garden tidy up for people who had fallen behind on their property maintenance for various reasons and offer more of a one off refresh. This service was popular with people looking to sell their houses or tenants exiting or after major building renovations. Initially they employed a qualified horticulturalist to give them the expertise they needed for pruning and hedging.
Clients had often requested that some of larger trees be reduced or pruned and ideally they want one company that will provide the complete service. They noted that Gardeners typically can’t offer tree services and Arborists are not interested in property and garden tidy up. Also from a cost perspective a typical job may only require the skills of a qualified arborist for 4 hours but may be a 20 hour job. They realised that they could offer a unique and competitive solution to meet client demand. Garden and Tree Men was born in 2022 with a rebrand and name change and contracting in Aborists to manage the tree work.
Using both in house expertise and fully qualified specialist arborist contractors where required Garden and Tree Men have an agile and cost effective model. Some arborists are better at large tree removal and others have qualifications for work around power lines. One of our contractors has a digger with forestry attachments for larger jobs.

FOUNDER - GARDEN & TREE CARE SPECIALIST
Garden & Tree Care Specialist Calvin Norcross has 4 years of hands-on experience in garden maintenance and tree work across Christchurch and North Canterbury. He is currently in his first year of arboriculture study, working toward his Level 3 and Level 4 Certificates in Arboriculture to further develop his skills and knowledge.
Calvin plays an active role in all aspects of the work at Garden and Tree Men, including hedge trimming, pruning, planting, removals, and ongoing property maintenance. He is passionate about providing safe, efficient, and reliable service, and is committed to learning best industry practices to deliver top results for clients.
FOUNDER - CLIENT SUPPORT & GARDEN SERVICES COORDINATOR
As a Client Support & Garden Services Coordinator, he plays a key role in sales, client communication, and property care coordination.
Leo with a great eye for detail has been directly involved in garden make overs and clean-ups, hedge trimming, and property maintenance across Christchurch, giving him a strong understanding of what’s required to deliver reliable, high-quality results.
Today, he focuses on supporting clients with tailored solutions, clear communication, and a smooth, stress-free experience from first contact to job completion.
SENIOR ESTIMATOR
Dennis is our Senior Estimator and a key technical advisor at Garden & Tree Men, with over 20 years of arboriculture experience across New Zealand and Europe. He is trusted for complex assessments, accurate pricing, and clear job planning on both residential and commercial sites.
Dennis brings a rare end-to-end understanding of arboricultural work. His quotes are written to be clear and practical for clients, crews, and administration, helping ensure jobs run safely and smoothly.
Dennis holds qualifications in Forestry, Arboriculture, and QTRA (Tree Risk Assessment) and also supports the team as a back-up arborist on technically challenging projects across Christchurch and North Canterbury.
GARDEN & LANDSCAPE
Allan manages a small team of gardeners. He has a broad range of skills in hard and soft landscaping and provides project management of our larger jobs.
Nick named Allan-Key as he is an all in one kind of guy with experience in Building of retaining walls, edging, digger work, lawn laying, drainage and irrigation.
Allan also has a good philosophy of do it once and do it well! He is a real asset to the company.
ARBORIST
As a Qualified Arborist at Garden and Tree Men. Henry Gough has worked in arboriculture since 2018, with experience in pruning, removals, and tree care for both native and exotic species. He is a qualified arborist with Level 3 and Level 4 Certificates in Arboriculture, committed to completing every job safely and in line with best industry practices.
Henry brings a strong focus on tree health, site safety, and quality workmanship. His passion for the industry and genuine care for trees and the environment are reflected in the pride he takes in every project across Christchurch and North Canterbury.
GARDENER
Is a qualified horticulturist and Senior Gardener at Garden & Tree Men, delivering high-end garden maintenance and softscape care for residential and lifestyle properties across Christchurch.
With strong team-leadership experience, Hamish specialises in plant identification, pruning, hedge work, lawn care, and seasonal garden management. He is Growsafe certified, highly organised, and known for consistent, detail-driven results.
Hamish takes pride in leaving gardens healthy, well-structured, and immaculate, providing clients with reliable, professional care they can trust.
ARBORIST
Zane has recently joined the team and is a skilled Arborist at Garden & Tree Men, specialising in fruit tree pruning, structural pruning, and detailed tree shaping. His work focuses on improving tree health, fruit production, and overall form through precise, well-timed pruning.
With a strong understanding of tree structure and growth patterns, Zane takes a careful, considered approach to every job. He is known for his attention to detail and pride in leaving trees balanced, healthy, and looking their best.
